Food and Litter

Food and Litter

I am writing this to share with you  my very educated opinion on food and litter in hopes
that you will want the best possible health and well being for the beloved kitten I have taken such great and un measurable care of up until the day it leaves my hands and enters your heart.

The  first thing I will say is if the food you choose to feed your new kitten isn't grain less (grain free) weather it be canned, dry, or raw, you will be feeding your kitten garbage it DOES NOT NEED! I have experienced first hand the wrath of an upset body that is given food of a lesser quality and I cannot tell you how devastating it is. I was in sheer panic before I realized what was happening. You CANNOT switch one of my kittens over to a NON grain free food or you WILL find out what I dealt with. It was a mess. Vomiting, loss of energy, massive weight loss and lack of appetite. I would never have believed that was the problem until I switched back to a grain free diet and watched my cats almost instantly put weight back on and go right back to normal. I will never make that mistake again.

As far as the price go's.  Honestly, I have done every comparison possible dollar for dollar, ounce for ounce, and quality to quality and the grain free diets don't really cost much more and in some brands are less in cost and always far superior in quality. I choose to feed my kittens a grain free kibble (Instinct by Nature's Variety - Limited Ingredient Turkey) o
n a free feed basis because they have a high metabolic rate caused by thier bodies having to work harder to sustain a normal temperature given thier lack of fur. They MUST have access to food of some sort at all times. I also feed a small amount of  grain free wet food in Duck flavor but the same brand sprinkled with Target Probiotics in the morning and night. For wet food feeding you will need to buy a good snap on cat food can lid. It's very simple as far as amount gos. Just divide the can into four portions. Feed one portion in morning and one at night. So the can should last you two days. I don't recommend keeping it in the fridge more then one day.
Not to say it doesn't exist but I have never seen a fat sphynx. In mention of that and not to change  the subject.  A highly sought after trait in a sphynx is what I like to call a pooch or goo. I know that sounds funny and it's certainly not a technical term but that's what I lovingly call the bit of fatty deposit that hopefully  resides in the abdominal area of your cat at some point in it's life. This does not mean it is fat but that it has a physical trait that I strive to give it. Again, feed your sphynx as much as it wants to eat! If you feed it the diet I highly suggest you shouldn't have any problems nor will it eat near as much as it would of a lesser quality food due to the fact that it will take longer for it's body to process and absorb the better meal. It will also get used to having food all the time and won't feel that it has to empty the bowl out of urgency by not knowing when and if they will get more food for sure ( cats have no concept of time and gorge naturally for fear of other animals taking their food) whenever it eats. Quite the opposite it will most likely eat less because it will be eating only because it is hungry and for no other reason with the knowledge that it's bowl is always full (believe me they will tell you if it's not). The best way I can describe the effects and difference in grained and grain free food is by telling you to ask yourself this. If you ate a pound of potatoes and rice one meal and you ate a pound of chicken and steak the next which one do you think would keep you feeling full longer and which one do you think your mammalian carnivorous body would make better use of? If you're a vegetarian I'm sorry to offend but your cat is NOT! Felines don't eat rice and corn or any of that other garbage filler in the wild.
Why should we feed it to them in our homes? It's that simple. To learn more about different meats and why I choose the ones I do read my Meat Types page.

Another benefit not a lot of people think about when it comes to feeding a grain free high quality diet is LESS POOP! One of the huge differences I noticed immediately with the grain free diet is how much less poop is in the litter box. Which in turn leads to using less litter which saves you money there as well as staying out of the vet for other diet related problems. The litter I use exclusively is The Worlds Best Cat Litter. It is free of any dyes or perfumes which can cause respiratory problems in you and your cat and most of which also contain chemicals that can cause serious problems for pregnant women. Read more here at this link. To go with that I also will never use any other litter scoop then the Litter Lifter. It is fantastic and is available at most pet stores. Try it for yourself and see why.
In finishing I am always available to answer any and all questions you may have about the care and well
being of your new family addition. I look forward to hearing from you and I hope this page has been some help.
Enjoy being owned by your sphynx!
